For those unfamiliar with it, Second Life is an online community rather reminiscent of the virtual world in Stephenson’s Snow Crash. Yesterday former governor of Virginia and undeclared presidential condidate Mark Warner made a whistle stop speech in avatar form there.

I’m impressed with this, because it’s the first example I’ve seen of a pol understanding the importance of harnessing new technology. Instead of viewing the Internet as a “series of tubes,” Warner has embraced the new medium.

I don’t know a thing about his politics, so I can’t say whether I’d vote for him or not, but I do wonder how much tech-savviness will affect future political races.
