Fans have been waiting nearly 20 years for the promised sequel, Buckaroo Banzai Versus The World Crime League, and…they’re going to have to wait a while longer.

However, the original writers have teamed up to produce a two-issue comic book Prequel.

Entitled Of Hunan Bondage, it is described thusly:

Buckaroo finds himself in dire straights: his rock and roll band on the road, no money, his voice lost, a doppelganger, the overthruster invention without inspiration?

We also flashback on the origins of Banzai’s musical career, and the Hong Kong Cavaliers, and the oft rumored about but never talked about in above hushed tones: the final fate of the Illinois Mongoose!

All that PLUS the interweaving plots of the Chinese Secret Yak Police, and what happened to Peggy Priddy — and the insidious Hanoi Xan!

If I ever start an alternative band, “Chinese Secret Yak Police” is totally going to be its name.

Anyway, the comic’s due out next March, so if you ever wanted to know how Mr. Banzai got his start now’s your chance.
