Flashes in the sky

It wasn’t as spectacular as I hoped, but I watched the Aurigids meteor shower this morning. Saw about 15 really good ones in a half hour period.

I wonder when my neighbor will discover that his security lightbulb has been, um, loosened? <G>

  1. It is difficult to be overly analytical from one set of observations, but if you saw 15 bright meteors in half an hour when there was fairly bright moonlight to contend with, that suggests the Aurigids did indeed produce a mild outburst. My quick guesstimate would be that, compensating for the conditions, we’d be talking about a ZHR (the rate per hour if the radiant were directly overhead) of maybe 50.
