Years ago, Daniel Sinker bought a children’s book at his town library’s book sale.
Written in 1972, it had been withdrawn from the library’s collection by the mid-80s, when I picked it up. I’ve somehow managed to hang onto it for 25 years and now, suddenly, here we are: 2010. I’m reproducing this long out-of-print book here to see how we’re doing. Are we really living in the future?
He’s posted scans of all of the pages, along with a transcript of the text and his own comments about the predictions therein. As with most decades-old predictions, some of them are fairly accurate and many are hilariously wrong.
Sinker is also on a quest to find the author and ask him (respectfully) how he thinks his fictional 2010 stacks up against the real thing. It’ll be interesting to hear his response.
(Also, I’m totally calling my computer a “vision desk” from now on.)
