After nailing the early 60s milieu of the outrageously good dramatic series “Mad Men”, AMC is ready to try its hand at a more technically challenging setting.
From Locus – November 2008:
Kim Stanley Robinson’s RED MARS is being developed as a TV series for AMC with executive producer Jonathon Hensleigh. Ralph Vicinanza, Vince Gerardis, and Eli Kirschner of Created By will co-produce. Other projects upcoming from AMC include a remake of ’60s series “The Prisoner”, and an adaptation of Glen David Gold’s “Carter Beats The Devil”.
Although RED MARS is a densely technical novel, if you strip away most of the info-dumps and concentrate on character and setting, a well written adaptation might work fairly well. With three series under its belt, AMC appears committed to high quality original programming. Of all the places a project like this could have ended up, I’m glad it landed there.
