Movie and TV Buzz

Universal Pictures has elected to fully finance and distribute HELLBOY 2, the sequel to the 2004 film HELLBOY . Guillermo del Toro will be back to direct the comic book adaption. Universal picked up the film after it was left in limbo with Revolution Studios out of business. Revolution Studios made the original film via it's distribution deal with Columbia Pictures. In a script by del Toro, Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, the humanoid creature born in the flames of hell who was deposited on Earth's doorstep as an infant and battles otherworldly evil for a covert government agency. Selma Blair returns as the horned hero's pyrokinetic love interest. The film will aim for a summer 2008 release.

Helena Bonham Carter has signed on to play Bellatrix Lestrange in the upcoming film HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX for Warner Bros. Pictures. Bellatrix Lestrange is Sirius Black's cousin and a Death Eater, or one of the evil Lord Voldemort's followers. The film synopsis reads: With their warning about Lord Voldemort's return scoffed at, Harry and Dumbledore are targeted by the Wizard authorities as an authoritarian bureaucrat slowly seizes power at Hogwarts. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson will all be back to reprise their roles as Harry, Ron and Hermione. Also signed on to reprise their roles are Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Brendan Gleeson, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, David Thewlis, Fiona Shaw, Richard Griffiths, David Bradley, Robert Hardy and Mark Williams. SPACE BABEL - The latest in Science, NASA and Other Agencies

This image, taken by the advanced Moon Imaging Experiment (AMIE) on board ESA's SMART-1 spacecraft, shows the Apollo 11 landing site in the Mare Tranquillitatis on the Moon --  ESA - Space Science - SMART-1 birthday postcard of Apollo 11 landing site

Where do hurricanes come from? Researchers are flying across the Atlantic to catch the mighty storms in the act of being born. The data they collect could lead to better forecasting and a deeper understanding of hurricanes. --  NASA - Birthplace of Hurricanes

European and American scientists, on a quest to find super-massive black holes hiding in nearby galaxies, have found surprisingly few. Either the black holes are better hidden than scientists realised or they are lurking only in the more distant universe. -- ESA - Space Science - Where are the supermassive black holes hiding?

A project aiming to create an easier way to measure cosmic distances has instead turned up surprising evidence that our large and ancient universe might be even bigger and older than previously thought -- SPACE.com -- Universe Might be Bigger and Older than Expected

~~~ T he Hook in the Book  ~~~
In the years when the worlds first bore life, the galaxy was all one. The eiran--the silver cords of life and luck--wound unbroken throughout all the aspects of human existence. They bound life to life, and world to world, and past to future, and the pattern was all of one weaving.
But the people of the many worlds grew lazy, and failed to tend the eiran as they should have done, and as had been their task from the beginning. The eiran turned wild, and grew and changed until the pattern was no longer of one weaving but of many, and the cords in the many patterns pulled and twisted in all directions.
A Novel of the Mageworlds
by Debra Doyle and James D. Macdonald
Last Word
"No matter how vast, how total, the failure of man here on earth, the work of man will be resumed elsewhere. War leaders talk of resuming operations on this front and that, but man's front embraces the whole universe."
Henry Miller, Sunday after the War, 1944
