The BBC asked authors Ken MacLeod, Paul Cornell, Iain Banks and Ian Watson whether science fiction can keep up with modern science, and whether the genre needs to stay current with the latest breakthroughs in order to be relevant.<\/p>\n
They all give long and thoughtful responses to the question. My own thought is that it isn’t strictly necessary; quite a lot of “classic” SF references woefully outdated technology, but the stories are still relevant.<\/p>\n
