Scientists have discovered the fossil remains of a frog that lived about 70 million years ago and, according to the rather breathless news article, “was so nasty it may have eaten newborn dinosaurs.”
Either this report was released by the Institute for Well, Duh or the journalist was having a little trouble trying to make a story about a fossilized frog sound exciting. There were plenty of dinosaurs whose hatchlings were lizard-size.
Anyway, it was 16 inches long and weighed 10 lbs or so and is described as being “quite mean,” although there’s no indication how they know that; perhaps it had a little Anger Management handbook fossilized with it.
The only reason I mention the discovery at all is because they’ve given it the formal scientific name “Beelzebufo,” which is so wonderful I may need to lie down for a few minutes.
